Sports Betting Odds: Straight Bets
Straight bets in sports betting are a bet on the outcome of a game, relative to a point spread. The point spread adds some points to the underdog team that the favorite must overcome. If you see a 'P' or the word 'pick' then it's an even up match and you just pick one side or the other. The point spread is expressed in units of 1/2. Sometimes an apostrophe is used to signify half a point. When making a straight bet you often have to wager $11 to win $10. This extra buck is a 10% vig, or vigorish, and is a kind of commission to the sports book.

Wagering Lines : Money Lines
Sports betting on money lines involves a simple bet on the true winner of a sporting event without any point spread. Since one team will be favored most of the time, if you want to bet on the favorite you must bet more than you stand to win (laying odds, in sports betting odds lingo). If you bet on the underdog you stand to win more than your bet (taking odds).

Sports Betting Odds: Futures (or 'props')
Futures usually pay long odds that a specified event will occur like a championship winner or, outside of sportsbetting, who will win the Oscar for Best Director, who will win the next elections, etc. These are some of the longest sports betting odds and should be taken with caution.

Sports Betting Odds: Parlays
The Parlay is a way to bet on multiple sporting events with hope for a big payoff if all of them win. All picks are relative to the same point spread as in straight bets. If just one event doesn't win or draw then you lose the entire bet.

Sports Betting Odds: Teasers
A teaser is similar to the parlay bet in that you choose multiple events and have to win them all. However the bookmaker teases the player with a specified number of extra points for each team bet on. Naturally the player pays for these extra points in the form of lower payoffs than on a parlay bet. Be careful not to take bad bets here!
